Garden medicine program set for herb society

GREENFIELD – “Wonder Drugs from the Garden” will be featured in a presentation this Thursday, July 7 hosted by the Hancock County Herb Society.

Dr. Kathleen Hull will present an introduction to the Medicinal Plant Garden at the Indiana Medical History Museum, and highlight some of the most powerful modern drugs that come from plants.

Hull is a graduate of Butler University and the Washington University School of Medicine. She is professor emerita of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine. She is a Purdue Extension advanced master gardener, a past president of the Master Gardener Association of Marion County, and head of the Medicinal Plant Garden at the Indiana Medical History Museum.

Program begins at 6:30 p.m. at ‘Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen, located behind the J.W. Riley Museum, 250 W. Main St., Greenfield. Light refreshments will be served. Meetings are free and the public is welcome. For more information, call 317-326-2274 or visit facebook/HerbiesofHancockCounty.

Fabric, stationery designer to speak at quilt guild

GREENFIELD – The Common Threads Quilt Guild welcomes Moda fabric and stationery designer Deb Strain to its July 20 meeting.

Anyone is welcome to attend to learn about Strain’s method for creating artwork, fabric and stationery. The meeting is at 9:30 a.m. July 20 in the community room of Ninestar Connect, 2243 E. Seniors to teach children sewing skills

GREENFIELD – A Kids Sewing Workshop will be hosted by Greenfield Parks and Recreation July 11 and July 18 from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The workshop, presented by the Greenfield Senior Center Quilt Group, will be $10 for children ages 8 to 12. Children will learn safety, basic skills and complete one project by using a sewing machine. It will be at the Patricia Elmore Center Center, 280 N. Apple St. Greenfield. Senior club to learn about MV schools

FORTVILLE – An open-house style event is available for local seniors wanting to learn more about Mt. Vernon Schools.

All 65+ Club cardholders and anyone 65 and older living in the district are encouraged to join an open-house style event 8-10 a.m. July 12 at the Mt. Vernon Administrative Service Center, 1806 W. Ind. 234, Fortville.

Donuts, muffins and coffee are provided; attendees will be able to visit with each other and Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker. Cost is free and reservations are not necessary. Attendees may join the 65+ Club by providing proof of in-district residency and identification; the club provides free admission to most Mt. Vernon middle and high school events.

Greenfield Chamber to host several summer events

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce has several events coming up.

An after-hours membership appreciation and networking event will be 4:30-7 p.m. July 7. The Party on the Plaza will have a Christmas in July theme; registration is required at greenfieldcc.org.

The Greenfield Area Chamber Classic Golf Tournament is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 15 at Royal Hylands Golf Club, 7629 S. Greensboro Pike, Knightstown. Sponsorship and marketing opportunities are available; call 317-477-4188 for details.
