GREENFIELD
Elaine McAlister Knight, 75, of Greenfield, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 25, 2022. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and her hospice team for their competent and caring help in maintaining her quality of life during the last few years. Elaine was a fine Christian woman, wife, mother and grandmother. She was a teacher specializing in the education of both children and adults with dyslexia.
She became a Baton Rouge Reserve Police Officer in 1986, teaching report writing in the Baton Rouge, LA Police Academy, while putting in her required street time, working uniform patrol. Elaine traveled extensively in the Far East with her husband. She used her teaching skills in Singapore. She managed a church school, teaching English as a second language (ESL) to about 250 women from 1999 to 2001.
Elaine was preceded in death by her, parents, Douglas D. McAlister and Margaret B. McAlister of Daytona Beach, Florida; her daughter, Heather Leigh (Knight) Bush of Mobile, Alabama.
She is survived by her husband, Lee David Knight of Greenfield; her daughter, Allison K. Kinion and son-in-law, Roger D. Kinion of Greenfield; grandchildren, Hannah E. Kinion and Ruston D. Kinion both of Greenfield; and her brother, Richard S. McAlister and his wife, Kim of Kerrville, Texas.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will begin at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Roger Kinion officiating. A graveside service and burial will take place on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Daytona Memorial Park in Daytona Beach, Florida.
