GREENFIELD – Leisa Harmon was recently presented with the 2022 Lorraine Caldwell Award of Excellence by the Hancock County Extension Homemakers.

Harmon was presented with the award at the May 2 Achievement Celebration of the organization, which included a special centennial celebration to honor the 100th birthday of the organization that began May 2, 2022. About 100 members and guests attended the event at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Harmon is a 14-year member Biz-Z-B Extension Homemakers club. She grew up with roots in Hancock County, the oldest of three children. She participated in activities at Mt. Vernon High School, including marching band and has many high school friends that she interacts with today.

As an adult she got involved in many community activities including a philanthropic sorority and volunteering to help with restoration of Hancock County cemeteries. She learned of Hancock County Extension Homemakers and joined a local club at the invitation of a friend in 2008. She has been an active promoter of Homemakers ever since, often thinking outside the box to draw interest to the organization, and has brought numerous new members to her club. She has served her club as president and vice president more than once, and has repeatedly taken pride in planning lessons and fun activities.

She also got involved in Homemakers activities at the county level, assisting county presidents with their agendas and volunteering on committees. Her participation was sometimes for her club’s responsibilities, but mostly out of a volunteer spirit and love of Homemakers. Her involvement includes working at Riley Festival Home Arts and Quilt Show, assisting with the community outreach ICAN programs, the Vintage Markets, the county’s bicentennial celebration and anywhere else a helping hand is needed. She has been a county member at large and vice president.

Family who attended the award presentation and shared the catered meal with Harmon included her son and daughter-in-law, Jake and Ashlee Shultz; grandchildren Asher and Henley; brother Tracy, his wife Crystal; niece Cassie, Jason and their two children.

The Achievement Celebration celebrated the entire year of Homemaker events, recognized individual and club achievements and milestones, and installed new officers.
