Spencer graduates from OWU

GREENFIELD – Mikayla Spencer of Greenfield graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Spencer earned a bachelor of arts degree cum laude with a zoology (general) major and a botany and environmental science minor.

OWU, located in Delaware, Ohio, hosted its 178th commencement ceremony May 7.

Teachers receive equipment grants

GREENFIELD – Two local teachers received grants from Sonic Drive-in, totaling a combined donation of $161.

Kate Graham of Brandywine Elementary School received a grant for science, sensory and STEM activities. The grant will help purchase equipment and measuring tools for science projects.

Laura Salee of Harris Elementary School received a grant for her art room, which will help purchase a rug for the floor for children to create art, as well as boxes to organize supplies.

In total, Sonic donated $1.5 million in May to help fund local education needs through DonorsChoose, a national nonprofit that allows individuals to donate directly to public school classroom requests submitted by teachers.

NPHS journalism students honored

NEW PALESTINE – Three New Palestine High School students were recently inducted into the Indiana High School Press Association’s honor roll.

Megan Bell, Annabella Lulgjuraj and Delaney William were inducted into the Diana Hadley Honor Roll Class of 2022.

Named after forer IHSPA Executive Director Diana Hadley, the annual recognition is presented to individuals who have displayed journalistic excellence while adhering to the organization’s core values of truth, courage, integrity and freedom throughout the school year.

Applications open for MV ambassador program

FORTVILLE – The application to join the 2022-23 Mt. Vernon Ambassador program is now open. Community members will learn behind-the-scenes information about the Mt. Vernon school corporation. This is the third year of the MV Ambassador program and the cohort is targeted to include about 25 community members. Any parent, business member, resident, or anyone can become an ambassador; you don’t have to have children attending MV to be an ambassador.

There will be a total of seven meetings throughout the 2022-23 school year (one per month August – April, excluding October and December, on Tuesday mornings from 7:50-9:30 a.m.). In each meeting, a different aspect of Mt. Vernon will be discussed from transportation to finance to operations and more. Visits to the Mini Marauder Preschool, an elementary school, Mt. Vernon Middle School and Mt. Vernon High School will be included in the meetings throughout the year to learn about their programs.

Spaulding named to dean’s list

WILKINSON –Alyson Spaulding of Wilkinson was named to the dean’s list of Lee University for the spring 2022 semester.

The honor is for full-time undergraduate students with a semester grade point average between 3.7 and 4.0. Lee University is a private Christian university in Cleveland, Tennessee.
