Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

— Matthew 6:25

This is a very dear passage for me.

I had been saved for a couple years, but had never really embraced walking with Christ. Work and providing for my family were my priorities, and my every decision showed that in my life.

God had tried to get me to see Him and His plan for my life a few times and was calling me to do Junior Church, and there was a need at our church … for about 9 months.

Well, I lost my job one day out of the blue due to things out of my control, and after a few weeks of not making money I was about to lose my mind because I couldn’t provide for my family.

I had to go to the church to pick up my daughter from preschool, and as I walked by my pastor’s office he asked how I was. He was just greeting me, but I broke down. I was so worried about so much, and yet at the core I knew I needed to surrender to God’s will for my life.

He prayed with me, and I let him know God wanted me to start doing Junior Church. He said, “It’s about time.” I grabbed my daughter and headed home.

While I felt a lot of peace at that time, there was still this nagging and heavy weight of providing for my family. What was I going to do?

I got home and for the first time of my Christian walk I grabbed my Bible in absolute desperation, seeking God … just Him! As it turns out, I just opened my Bible to Matthew 6. All my worry and all my fear left the moment I got to this verse, verse 25.

God used this verse to come along side me on my couch that day and put His arms around me and say, “I got this, Larry. Quit worrying about tomorrow, I will take care of you.”

Guess what, He did! Guess what, He always has! Guess what, He still DOES!
