GREENFIELD – The force was strong last week in the children’s room of the Hancock County Public Library.

Nearly 90 people gathered for a “May the Fourth Be With You” Star Wars event, joining imperial forces and rebels alike with crafts, activities, toys and more.

It was a first-time event for the HCPL, but library assistant Michelle Brown said she researched similar events at other libraries and used plenty of Pinterest for inspiration when planning the out-of-this-world party.

Many came in costume, and photo opportunities were available with cosplayers from the 501st Legion of Star Wars Indiana. Greenfield resident Michael Torres from the Star Wars Collecting Community of Indiana was on hand to showcase his items, and “Jedi training” with light sabers and balloons.

And, of course, there were plenty of Star Wars books to check out.

Brown, who wore Yoda ears and led a costume parade to the “Imperial March” around the circulation desk, said she’s been a Star Wars fan since the original movies were released. She’d watch double or triple features with her dad and brother.

“It was our bonding time as a family, and my brother and I continued this with our own kids,” she said.
