Kentucky Derby party scheduled

GREENFIELD – Put on your best hat for a Kentucky Derby party, hosted by Greenfield Elks at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7 at 820 S. State St.

Raffle prizes, bourbon cocktails and southern food will be available, along with a best hat competition. Visit Greenfield Elks on Facebook for updates.

Ukrainian egg art event set

GREENFIELD – Artist Lou Sullenger will show a collection of Ukrainian eggs and give a live demonstration on egg painting 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 14 at Twenty North Gallery, 20 N. State St., Greenfield. Participants receive a wooden egg to decorate and display, and also learn about the history of and art of Ukrainian egg decorating. Downtown Greenfield events on the horizon

GREENFIELD – Bikes in Bloom kicks off May 9 in downtown Greenfield, featuring decorated bicycles from community businesses and organizations. The display is sponsored by Greenfield Main Street and runs through June 19; judging takes place May 19.

Greenfield Main Street is also accepting applications for Mutts on Main, the second annual costume dog parade May 21. Applications are available for vendors and participants. For details and to apply, visit www.greenfieldmainstreet.org.

Parks department hosts art contest

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Parks and Recreation is looking for local art to display at the new Depot Street Park.

Children and adults are invited to create art with the theme “how parks make life better.” Winning art will be printed and displayed at the park’s vertical art panels.

Art contest categories are children in grades kindergarten through third; grades fourth through sixth; grades seventh through eighth; and grades nine to 12; and adults. Judges will select a winner from each age category based on execution, originality and interpretation of the theme.

EHHS band concerts May 15

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Eastern Hancock band students will perform “Earthdawn – A Celebration of Earth” instrumental concert series Sunday, May 15. The middle school bands perform at 2 p.m. before wind and percussion ensembles at 3:30 p.m. at the Eastern Hancock High School auditorium. Award ceremonies will be at each concert.
