Appreciation postcards available for MV staff

FORTVILLE – Anyone in the Mt. Vernon community is encouraged to fill out a simple form as an appreciation postcard for Mt. Vernon staff members.

“Because of you” postcards allow people to send a personalized message to bus drivers, teachers, cafeteria workers, custodians, instructional assistants and more for free. Visit www.mvcsc.k12.in.us/news for the form.

Foundation to host bowling fundraiser

GREENFIELD – “Bowl for Greenfield-Central Students” is scheduled for 5:30-9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at Strike Force Lanes, 1539 W. Main St., Greenfield. The event, hosted by the Greenfield Central School Foundation, includes three games of bowling, face painting, balloon animals, photo booth and silent auction. Cost is $12 per person; the school classroom with the greatest attendance receives a pizza party and the teacher receives a $50 Amazon gift card. Participants are also asked to bring their Kroger Rewards card to enter for other prizes. Lane sponsorships are available at $100 a lane. Visit gcschoolfoundation.org for more information.

MV band to host mattress fundraiser

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon High School Band Program will host its fourth annual Mattress Fundraiser 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 23 at the Mt. Vernon High School cafeteria. There will be 30 different mattress styles in several name brands on display for customers to try, along with adjustable power bases, pillows, bed frames and mattress protectors. Mattresses are available two to three weeks after the fundraiser, with delivery available.

The sale is through Custom Fundraising Solutions, which first introduced the Mattress Fundraiser in Cleveland, Ohio in 2005 and now has over 100 locations working with more than 2,000 schools nationwide. For details, visit bit.ly/beds4mvband22 or watch a video at vimeo.com/637591323

G-C Alumni Hall of Fame nominations open

GREENFIELD – GC Alumni Hall of Fame nominations are being accepted by the Greenfield Central School Foundation. Special alumni deserving of the honor may include graduates of Greenfield-Central High School, as well as Hancock Central, Eden, Maxwell and Greenfield high schools. Criteria include having a special achievement within the nominee’s profession; honors, awards and other recognition at the local, state, national or international level; community service; and contributions to society in general.

The foundation began the Hall of Fame in 2013 as a way to celebrate people who touch the lives of others. Inductions are held during the annual GCSF Red Letter Gala.

Fortville resident achieves high honor dean’s list

FORTVILLE – Nicole Ratts of Fortville was named to the dean’s list with high honors at Milwaukee School of Engineering. The honor is for the 2022 winter quarter for having maintained a 3.70 grade point average or higher with 30 credits. Ratts is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering.

Financial aid meeting for seniors scheduled

GREENFIELD – A free financial aid meeting for Greenfield-Central High School seniors and their families will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20 at the G-CHS library.

Finalizing Financial Aid Night offers help in finalizing college funding plans with experts from INvestEd discussing how to compare college financial aid offers and options on how to cover remaining balances. For more on the nonprofit organization INvestEd, visit investedindiana.org.

Academic Super Bowl hosted at G-CHS today

GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central High School is one of 23 schools hosting the 36th annual Indiana Academic Super Bowl today, Tuesday, April 19.

The competition will bring in three- to five-person teams from the region answering questions ons social studies, math, English, science and fine arts. A sixth round of competition, the Interdisciplinary, will be the climax of the competition.

The theme of the competition is “Canada: Our Neighbor to the North;” spectators are welcome to attend starting at 5:30 p.m. Ribbons will be awarded to members of the top three teams in each subject, and those schools will advance to the state final at Purdue University May 7. The event is hosted by the Indiana Association of School Principals and Purdue University.
