GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Central Junior High School dance team put in the work this season, and the Fusionettes were rewarded.

With a team comprised of seventh and eighth graders, the GCJH Fusionettes were crowned regional champions in the category of Jazz Performance and advanced to the state finals last month.

At the Indiana High School Dance Team Association state competition, held at Lafayette Jefferson High School, the Fusionettes placed second overall in the Jazz category.

The Fusionettes are coached by Kelsey Carter and assisted by coach Kenzie Miller. The team includes students from Greenfield Central Junior High School and St. Michael’s.

The team routinely commits nine to 10 months to dance every season, and the time spent paid dividends for the Fusionettes, who won the Jazz regional team title at Terre Haute South High School on March 5. The state meet was conducted on March 12.

The Fusionettes dance team competed this season with 11 on the performance floor at regional, including Izzy Rosa, Harper Rahe, Ava Wilhelm, Nora Hull, Macy Gilgrist, Lizzie Dotson, Kiera Larrison, Sophie Capen, Kylie Larrison, Ava May and Anna McQueeny.

At regional, the team also placed third in Pom. The Fusionettes’ regional championship in Jazz was its first in a decade.
