GREENFIELD
Billy M. Swafford Sr., age 88, of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at his home. Born on July 3, 1933, in Micola, Missouri, he was the son of William Oran Swafford and Lucille (Capley) Swafford. Billy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He married Beverly J. Roberts on July 30, 1955 in Greenfield.
For over 30 years, he worked as a truck driver for various companies including, Wheaton Van Lines, Red Ball, Frontier, and B&L Motor Freight before retiring in 2009. He also worked as a teacher for several years at the American School of Heavy Equipment in Morristown. Billy enjoyed being outdoors. He loved tending to his garden, riding his tractor and spending time with his dog, Weenie.
Billy is survived by his children, Edward “Corky” Foster (Tamera) of Greenfield, Billy M. Swafford Jr. of Greenfield, Kathy Hulen (Rex) of Greenfield, and Jackie Logan (Bobby) of Greenfield; grandchildren, Adrian, Amber, Jennifer, Angela, Misty and Jessica; sisters, Brenda, Jane, Jennette, Betty Jo and Carolanne; brother, Mike; and his dog, Weenie. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucille Swafford; wife, Beverly Swafford; brothers, James and Jerry Swafford; and granddaughter, Amber Swafford.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at the mortuary on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery. Military rites will be presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard.
