McCORDSVILLE — Two McCordsville Police officers were recognized for their quick responses credited with saving the lives of two individuals earlier this year.

Officers Jeremiah Carder and Jeffrey Boxberger received the Life Saving Awards from the town’s police department.

Maj. Jim Bell said Carder responded to an unresponsive individual on Jan. 18 and administered Narcan, a medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. When Carder noticed the person wasn’t breathing and had no pulse, he did chest compressions and rescue breathing until medics arrived and transported the person to a hospital for further care.

Bell said Boxberger was one of several officers who responded to a scene on Jan. 27 where an individual was unresponsive upon their arrival. The officers administered two doses of Narcan and saw that the person had stopped breathing before initiating CPR. The individual started breathing again and medics transported them to a hospital.
