HANCOCK COUNTY – Several local high school students showed their career readiness skills and received awards at a recent development conference.

Jobs for America’s Graduates held its Indiana Regional Career Development Conference virtually in February.

Eastern Hancock High School students that received awards were Lillian Kendrick, second place for career presentation; Cade Morgan, second place for creative solutions; Brady Jordan, this place for financial literacy; and Breawna Taulbee, first place for employability skills. Taulbee will advance to a state competition, to be held March 18.

Students received monetary awards for their efforts, which was the result of months of preparation, planning and interviewing.

The entire Eastern Hancock JAG program placed second in the region for the marketing of its social media accounts.

Greenfield-Central High School’s JAG program placed first in social media.

Several Mt. Vernon High School students also participated in the event. Caleb Barrett placed third in creative solutions and Grant Hoeppner received an outstanding senior honorable mention at the conference.

The conference was held virtually for the second year in a row, and over 72 students competed, including students from Anderson, Avon, Martinsville, Pendleton, Shelbyville and Whiteland.

Judging took place from Jan. 21 to Feb. 4 when 16 employer judges reviewed slide decks, essays, business plans and presentation videos. According to a brochure from JAG, many seasoned judges expressed how this year’s competitors raised the bar.
