Samuel L. Dowden, 83, of Ingalls, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born April 20, 1938, in Ingalls to Kenneth and Esther (Hedricks) Dowden. He was a life-long philanthropist and a prominent owner of many businesses and restaurants including ACME Disposal, Junction Inn, Broadway Diner, Discount Mini Storage and Broadway Hardware. Sam also served on the Ingalls Town Council and enjoyed fishing, traveling, casinos and Las Vegas.

Sam is survived by his wife Pattie (Nicholas) Dowden and children: Jody Fuchs and her twin sister Jan (Steve) Price, Scott (Carol) Dowden, Gabrielle Ayers and Jimmy Lowe; grandchildren: Samantha Wiseman and Adam Fuchs, Cassie Glunt and Jessica and Allie Price, Zach and Audrey Dowden, Kayleigh, Ashley &Nicholas Ayres and Sophia Lowe; sister Beverly Galloway, brother Ray (Carol) Dowden as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Sam was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy (Bland) Dowden in 1993, his parents, son-in-law Michael Fuchs and siblings Arthur, Jack, Burnha Lou, Janet and Phyllis.

A funeral to celebrate Sam’s life was held on Monday, February 28, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Seals Funeral Home, Fortville. Friends called on Monday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial took place at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
