GREENFIELD — Another property has dropped out of a grant program funding exterior building improvements.

Bradley Methodist Church has withdrawn from the federal dollars through the Stellar Communities Program the state accepted the city into in 2018, according to city planning director Joan Fitzwater.

Fitzwater said the church already had roof work slated outside of the grant, but if it were done amid the grant program for other improvements, the church would have to follow prevailing wage rates per a federal act, which has proven to be too onerous.

That leaves five downtown buildings in the grant from an original total of eight: Greenfield Christian Church, Bradley Hall Events Center, Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce, H.B. Thayer building and Sonicu.

Greenfield has allocated its additional funds — $14,000 — to Fortville, which is also in the Stellar program and is pursuing improvements to a VFW post building and FoxGardin Kitchen and Ale.

It leaves Greenfield with a grant of $786,000, plus a local match from the city and property owners, for a total of over $1 million.
