Huber on winning bowling team

ANGOLA – Greenfield resident Macy Huber and her Trine University women’s bowling teammates captured the school’s first conference championship earlier this month.

The Thunder scored the most points in the final of the American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA ) championships.

The women broke their individual game record to claim the title, shooting 1095 for five individual scores (219 average).

In conference play, the Thunder finished no worse than sixth and placed in podium position in three of the final four AHBA events.

Local students named to dean’s lists

GREENFIELD – Hancock County students were named to dean’s lists at universities recently.

Rhys Deiter of Fortville made the fall dean’s list at Millikin University for earning a 3.5 grade point average or higher while taking 12 credit hours. The university is located in Decatur, Ill.

Alexandra Black of New Palestine was named to DePauw University’s fall 2021 dean’s list, having achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average or higher. The university is located in Greencastle.

MLK essay contest open

INDIANAPOLIS – A deadline for the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest is approaching.

The contest, by the Indiana Association of School Principals, is for students in grades 6 to 12.

Students are being asked to write their essays based on the following quote from King:

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.”

More specific contest information can be found on the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest website, https://iasp.org/students/mlk-jr-essay/. The online submission deadline is Feb. 28.

MV superintendent to hold virtual talks

FORTVILLE – Mt. Vernon Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker will speak about the referendum and hold a question-and-answer session in a series of virtual “traveling talks” coming up.
