Letter to the editor: We have enough box-like buildings

To the editor:

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the County Commissioners, against the recommendation of the Plan Commission, rezoned 300 more acres for industrial, warehousing, etc.

Bigger isn’t always better. When is enough enough?

I can remember the original purpose of property tax credits and TIF districts was to create jobs for Hancock County residents. But we have now way overdone that. We have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country (1% as of December, 2021)

There are nearby counties that could use the jobs, such as Madison and Henry. What is the purpose of making the residents of those counties drive to the west side of Hancock County over our roads to get a job? And our roads are further clogged with millions of products coming in and out of the warehouses.

I prefer seeing farm fields rather than miles of box-like buildings.
