DAR to give scholarship

KNIGHTSTOWN – The Major Hugh Dinwiddie Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is accepting applications for a local scholarship.

The Mary Ellen Ward Scholarship, $500, is available to seniors in the Eastern Hancock, Tri High and C.A. Beard area, as well as homeschooled seniors. The scholarship form can be obtained from one of those high schools or by emailing Regent Denise Akers, [email protected]. The form must be turned in by April 1 via email or by mail to Denise Akers, 113 W. Western Road, New Castle.

The club’s next meeting is at 1 p.m. March 5 at Knightstown First Christian Church, 138 W. Main St., Knightstown.

Shrine club to host meal, meeting

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Shrine Club’s next meal and meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police, 400 E. Davis Road, Greenfield. The meal is $10 per person; reserve a spot by Feb. 18 by calling or texting Randy Riley, 317-498-0806.

4-H club collecting materials for recycled picnic tables

GREENFIELD – Plastic bottle caps, lids and monetary donations are being collected to create new picnic tables for the Hancock County Fairgrounds.

The Lucky Clovers 4-H Club is collecting items to recycle to create picnic tables. Donations will be accepted from 4-5 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Hancock County Purdue Extension, 802 Apple St., Greenfield. Donations will also be accepted at the same time March 6, April 17 and May 22. Acceptable caps include milk jug, creamer, toothpaste, drink bottle, ketchup, baby food, apple sauce pouch, and shampoo. Acceptable lids include peanut butter, mayonnaise, ice cream bucket, cottage cheese, yogurt and more.

Local lawmakers to speak at breakfast

GREENFIELD – Rep. Bob Cherry, Rep. Chris Jeter and Sen. Mike Crider will be guest speakers at the Eggs and Issues Legislative Breakfast coming up.

The event, hosted by the Greenfield Area Chamber of Commerce, will begin 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 1 at Greenfield Central Educational Services Center, 700 N. Broadway St., Greenfield. Register at greenfieldcc.org/news_events. Cost is $15.
