GREENFIELD — Thursday’s winter storm resulted in few crashes in the city thanks to many people heeding warnings and not heading out, according to police.

The Greenfield Police Department reported responding to only five crashes in the city from Wednesday evening through midday Friday despite roadway conditions beginning with ice on Wednesday. None of the crashes resulted in injuries.

Officers did help many vehicles get unstuck from drifts in driveways and roads, according to the GPD.

The GPD expressed thanks to all those who took the storm seriously and stayed inside, as well as appreciation to the city’s street department. Police urge continued caution when driving, especially on side streets and county roads that remain snow-covered and slippery. Friday’s sun should help melt some snow, but could lead to ice as the sun sets and temperatures drop over the weekend.
