Anna Ackerman, a senior at New Palestine High School, was selected to receive an Indiana High School Athletic Association sportsmanship pin. Principal Jim Voelz (right) and Athletic Director Al Cooper presented it to her Jan. 25, the night of the girls basketball team’s last regular-season game. Ackerman suffered a season-ending injury in preseason practices but was cited for her continued leadership as a mentor and encourager to the team. “Despite missing her senior season Anna showed incredible perseverance and displayed leadership for her team,” Voelz wrote in a tweet about the award. “Anna also volunteered to keep the JV scorebook this season.”
