HANCOCK COUNTY — The county has added two new COVID-19 deaths, increasing its toll from the virus to 222.

According to the Indiana Department of Health, the victims were in their 40s and 70s. One was a woman and one was a man. The deaths occurred on Jan. 21 and 23.

New COVID-19 cases in the county are trending downward, descending from a pandemic high of averaging over 200 a day on the 17th to just over 150 a day on the 24th. Statewide, daily cases are also on a downswing, but not nearly as steep as the county’s. Indiana recorded 134 new COVID-19 deaths between Dec. 18, 2021, and Jan. 24, 2022, as well.

The state also released its weekly update of school COVID-19 numbers on Monday, with every public school in the county once again reporting new student cases. The highest additions were Greenfield-Central High School and Greenfield Central Junior High, both with over 50 between Jan. 10 and 21.
