COVID-19 cases set another daily record

HANCOCK COUNTY — The county recorded 328 new COVID-19 cases on Jan. 5, continuing a trend of daily case highs for the pandemic.

That total broke a previous record of 236 new cases added on Dec. 31, 2021. Other high days recently include 145 on Jan. 4, 187 on Dec. 30, 154 on Dec. 29 and 143 on Dec. 28.

Before the current surge, the most cases Hancock County added in a single day was 141 on Jan. 6, 2021.

Hancock County added no new COVID-19 deaths on Jan. 5, keeping its total at 201.

Indiana recorded its highest case day of the pandemic on Jan. 5 as well, with 15,264. The state also added 150 new deaths between Oct. 13, 2021 and Jan. 5, 2022, raising its total to just under 18,800.
