GREENFIELD
Elizabeth “Joyce” (Lakin) Mitchell, age 88, entered her rest in peace on December 6, 2021, after a short illness. She was born June 10, 1933 to Francis and Eva May (Stout) Lakin, in Dearborn, Michigan. She was the eighth of eighteen children, one of whom survives. Joyce met the love of her life, Bruce Mitchell, on a blind date in September 1953, and they were married two months later in Detroit, Michigan. They were married for sixty-six years, traveling to 49 states and many countries. Joyce loved her family, her cat, Mikey, and ice cream.
Surviving are her children, Linda (Sam) Gould, Amy (Vic) Kurz, Greg (Michelle) Mitchell, and Lisa (James) Smith, fourteen grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Her brother, David survives her as well. Her husband, Bruce and son, Jeff preceded her in death.
Cremation will be handled by Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory. Services will be held on a later date with interment at Great Lakes Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Donations may be directed to the Salvation Army.
