GREENFIELD — Russel Jarvis, chaplain for Hancock Regional Hospital, received an award for his service to the community.

Jarvis was awarded the John Long Memorial Vocational Service Award by the Greenfield Rotary Club. Named after the late Dr. John Long, an optometrist and Rotarian for more than 50 years, the annual award is designed to honor people in the community who commit to serving others.

Jarvis, the HRH chaplain for 18 years, helps patients and family members daily as they deal with pain, heartache and loss, but also shares in their joy and victories.

Jarvis serves in the community in several other ways. He is secretary of the Greater Greenfield Ministerial Association and has also served with Caring Community Partners, Hancock County Food Pantry, Love INC, and The Landing. He is a member of the Critical Incident and Stress Management Team, which is a Healthy 365 initiative that provides emotional aid to members of local public safety departments and schools.

Jarvis was nominated by Grant Ford and John Senger. Rotary Club President Rob Caird presented him with a plaque at an October meeting of the club.
