County adds 1st COVID-19 death in nearly a month

HANCOCK COUNTY — The county added a COVID-19 death Friday, raising its total to 176.

The fatality was a man age 80 or older who died on Oct. 21, according to information form the Indiana Department of Health. He was the county’s first coronavirus death since Sept. 27.

Hancock County also reported 22 new COVID-19 cases on Friday.

Daily case counts continue to trend downward for the county, with a seven-day moving average of 19 on Friday, down from a recent peak of over 50 in mid-September.

Hancock County’s weekly score for its state-assigned COVID-19 advisory level is down from orange to yellow, the second least severe. The county will need to maintain its improved metrics until Monday, Oct. 25 in order to achieve the yellow advisory level.

Indiana reported 22 new COVID-19 deaths Friday, spanning from December 2020 through Oct. 21, 2021; and nearly 1,900 new cases, all from Thursday. The state’s daily case counts continue to trend downward as well.
