MORRISTOWN
E. Vernon Murray, age 77, of Morristown, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born in Christine, Kentucky on June 10, 1944 to Theodore Roosevelt Murray and Plona Lee (Gaskin) Murray. He graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis in 1963. He served in the Air Force in 1966. He married Linda G. Roberson on June 10, 1966.
He worked for Ford Motor Company for 39 years before retiring in 2008. Mr. Murray was a member of Hancock Reformed Baptist Church and UAW #1111. He served as an Associate Pastor, Song Leader, Youth Pastor and Deacon at Bethel Baptist and Westside Baptist Churches. He was an accomplished artist and enjoyed walking, reading, and loved being with his family.
Vernon is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda G. Murray of Morristown; children, Vernon (Traci) Murray of Morristown, Monica Powell of Morristown, Nikki (Jeff) Chisham of Morristown, and Davina (Brad) Odom of Carthage; sisters, Deborah Ridge of Indianapolis, and Rosetta Troy of Oklahoma; and brother, Arnold Murray of Oklahoma, as well as 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Roosevelt Murray and Plona Lee (Gaskin) Murray; siblings, Welby, Lewis, Dimple, Hazel, Virl, and Eldon.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 18, 2021, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at 1 p.m. at Hancock Reformed Baptist Church, 944 E. Davis Road, Greenfield, IN 46140. A live stream of the funeral service will be available at https://www.hrbchurch.org/about-basic. Pastor Dennis Judy will be officiating. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
