The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

Aug. 17

White Castle

Location: 2253 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: NC — hand sink by ice machine did not get to 100 degrees, to be corrected by Sept.1; NC — soap dispenser not working in men’s restroom, to be corrected by Aug. 18; NC — handle of ice scoop was in ice, corrected; NC — walk-in freezer floor has build-up of debris, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC — walk-in freezer has ice on pipe at ceiling, repair seal of unit holding sliced cheese.

Aug. 19

Zapp Thai Restaurant

Location: 2045 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C, R — employee not washing hands before placing gloves on, corrected; C — employee rinsing hands with water and drying with cloth towel; must use soap and disposable towel, corrected; C — shell eggs were being held too warm, corrected; C, R — utensils that are marked as clean have debris, corrected; NC — coolers have broken seals and door not fitting properly, seal on freezer has broken seal, ice build-up in freezer, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC — ventilation hood over fryers have build-up of debris, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC — dish machine wash cycle needs to reach 120 degrees, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Long John Silvers

Location: 2080 W. Main St., Greenfield

Violations found: NC, R — paint coming off wall of walk-in cooler, walk-in cooler floor is coming up, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC — light not working in area by three-compartment sink, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC — ice build-up in walk-in cooler, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

The Grill

Location: 6621 W. Broadway St., McCordsville

Violations found: NC, R — debris build-up on floors in corners and on covering in some places in the kitchen, to be corrected by Sept. 1; C, R — condiments such as sour cream in server area is above 41 degrees, corrected; NC — debris on can opener, racks in walk-in cooler, fans in walk-in cooler and shelving where microwaves are, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Aug. 23

Wendy’s

Location: 2809 N. 600W, Greenfield

Violations found: C — cheese products on prep line are above 41 degrees, corrected; C — employee observed using meat spatula in sandwich assembly area, then touching raw hamburger and touching handle of hamburger cooking press, corrected; NC — utensil has areas that look to have melted during use, corrected.

Aug. 24

O’Charley’s

Location: 1993 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C — food on line on ice is above 41 degrees, corrected; NC — ice build-up in walk-in cooler on pipes, also leaking faucet at hand sink, to be corrected by Sept. 7; NC — debris build-up under some equipment in kitchen and on legs of equipment, to be corrected by Sept. 7; C — employee observed breading chicken pieces with gloves then touching handle of fryer basket, corrected.

Aug. 26

Casey’s General Store

Location: 1133 E. Main St., Greenfield

Violations found: NC — need to provide test strips for sanitizer, to be corrected by Sept. 26; C — mozzarella cheese at pizza prep table is above 41 degrees, corrected; C — beef bologna package in cooler is not date-marked, corrected.

Sept. 1

Kroger

Location: 1571 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C — ham in deli case was not date-marked, corrected; NC — walk-in freezer in seafood area has ice build-up, repair scheduled, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC — hand sink in seafood area is not working, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC — hand sink by warmer in deli kitchen is leaking, produce department sink chemical dispenser has leak, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC, R — hand-washing sink in meat-cutting and packaging area did not reach 100 degrees, to be corrected by Oct. 1.
