Bicyclist hit in late night crash on U.S. 40

GREENFIELD — A late night crash involving a bicycle rider and a vehicle sent the rider to an Indianapolis hospital via air ambulance, officials with the Greenfield Police Department said.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 near the 2300 block of West Main Street on U.S. 40, on the north side of the road.

The driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and called 911, Chuck McMichael, deputy chief of police and public information officer for the GPD said. McMichael noted the rider was in serious condition when he was transported.

According to reports, the driver of the vehicle submitted to a blood draw.

Officials from the Greenfield Fire Territory; Greenfield Police Department; Hancock County Sheriff’s Department; Indianapolis Fire Department and the Fountaintown Fire Department worked the scene.

Officials from the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.Team) took over the scene shortly after midnight according to a response report.
