Chalkfest featuring patriotic theme

GREENFIELD — Head over to the splash pad parking lot at Riley Pool for a patriotic-themed Chalkfest event Saturday, Sept. 11. Child and group drawings begin at 3 p.m. and adult chalking begins at 4 p.m. Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place chalk drawings in age categories. Pre-registration is suggested at parks.greenfieldin.org but walk-in participation is welcome. Cost is $5 for children, $8 for adults and $15 for groups.

Gem, fossil show coming up this weekend

GREENFIELD — Explore natural science in the 500 Earth Science Club’s gem, mineral and fossil show. Admission and parking is free for the event at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Over 70 vendors will be on hand offering dazzling array of minerals, fossils, rocks, jewelry and other items to purchase. A food vendor is also on site, along with bead and jewelry-making supplies and equipment for cutting and polishing stones. The event is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Friday, Sept. 10 and Saturday, Sept. 11. Proceeds from the show benefit scholarships and awards to local universities, museums and youth organizations studying the earth sciences. Comedy percussion show coming to Anderson

ANDERSON — A high-energy comedy show with percussion, songs, tap dancing, inventive instrumentation and more is coming to Anderson’s Paramount Theatre this weekend.
