Phyllis Cole, 88, of Anderson passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born December 18, 1932 in Greenfield, Indiana, a daughter of the late Francis E. and Florence Margaret (Ewick) Sanford.

She was a 1950 graduate of Mt. Comfort High School. Started working at the box factory then onto Oaklandon Telephone Exchange until she started her beautician career at J.C. Penney. Phyllis turned her home into a beauty salon and started her own business. She married Hugh “Red” Cole on September 2, 1950, they were members of the Gold Wing Riders Association and traveled all over the United States. She was a member of the Markleville Eastern Star. Phyllis was an avid square dancer, bowler and card player. She was a diehard Cincinnati Reds and Indiana Pacers fan and loved to play BINGO. She was a farm wife for over 30 years and loved spending her winters in Florida.

Survivors include her children, Phillip Cole of Williamsburg, Virginia, Penny Ricketts of Markleville and Susan (Steve) Drinkut of Pendleton; grandchildren, Shane (Kim Pitts) Williams, Dustin Cole, Austin (Josie) Cole, Chad (Kim) Williams, Emma, Cole & Kyle Drinkut and Haylie Williams; great grandchildren Isabelle Williams, Brysen Williams, Autumn Cole, Dustin Cole Jr., Rhys Cole, Sarah Cole and Mike Cole; sister-in-law, Star Sanford-Myers; brother-in-law, Gene Cole; many nieces & nephews; The family would like to thank special friend and caretaker, Angie Peters and Paradigm Hospice.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh “Red” Cole; infant brother Harlan Sanford; brothers, Dale Sanford and Larry Sanford.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Brown Butz & Diedring Funeral Home in Anderson with Pastor Tony Darling officiating. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle.
