The Dragons are now 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the HHC. They have outscored their opponents 35-5 in six games this season.

Marauders post fifth shutout win

The Mt. Vernon girls soccer team won its second straight match and remained unbeaten in the HHC with a 9-0 shutout over visiting New Castle on Thursday.

The Marauders (5-1-1, 3-0 HHC) are currently undefeated at home this season at 4-0, and Mattie Isger made sure the trend stood up with a hat trick against the Trojans.

Mt. Vernon’s victory marked its fifth shutout. Shay Shipley added a pair of goals to go with Isger’s trio. Shipley also had an assist.

Maddie Swingle, Hannah Monroe and Addison Lockwood each posted one goal apiece. The Trojans provided the Marauders with an own goal as well.

Marauders rebound with HHC win

The Mt. Vernon boys soccer team needed bonus time on Thursday night, but it was worth the wait.

Tied 2-2 after regulation with visiting Yorktown and 3-3 after two overtime periods, the host Marauders prevailed 4-2 in a penalty-kick shootout to win.

The victory improved their season record to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the HHC.

Coming off a tough 2-0 loss at home against HHC foe New Palestine on Tuesday, the Marauders bounced back and in the process seized the league’s traveling Bell trophy.

After a scoreless first half, the Marauders built 2-0 lead against Yorktown behind a pair of goals from Zach Johnson and two assists by Nick Heitman.

Yorktown rallied back to send the game into overtime before Mt. Vernon pulled ahead 3-2 off a first-OT period free-kick goal by Tyler Webb. Another goal by the Tigers in the second overtime period deadlocked the score for a second time.

Once in PKs, Marauders’ Johnson, Webb, Carsen Brandon and Dawson Wagner all buried their shots while goalkeeper Bryce Glazier had two stops to seal the victory. Glazier finished with 15 saves.

Up next, the Marauders travel to rival Greenfield-Central on Thursday to defend the Bell.
