Janet A. Rankins

GREENFIELD

Janet Arlene Rankins, 84-years-old, of Greenfield, Indiana entered eternal rest peacefully Sunday, July 18th, 2021.

Janet was born July 9th, 1937, in Vanceburg, Kentucky where she lived throughout childhood. She had many adventures there and told stories of a too close for comfort run-in with a bear and days spent swimming across the Ohio River. Growing up she also spent summers in Traverse City, Michigan picking cherries with her family, the late Elwood & Florence (Kilgore) Armstrong.

August 2nd, 1958, Janet married Robert (Bob) K Rankins and in 1958 they moved to New Palestine before finding their homestead and planting roots in Greenfield.

Janet worked with Bob farming, transporting countless wagons full of crops. She had other jobs – working in the cafeteria at Major Hospital for 16 years and driving a school bus for Southern Hancock schools, but her life work was her family.

Janet was gifted musician. She could play anything on the piano by ear. She passed down her musical talents to many family members and taught others along the way as a long-time member of the Greenfield Church of God, where she was in the choir and played piano for 35 years. She was also active in the Women’s Ministry, and a caring and jovial friend to many.

A devoted mother and grandmother. Janet leaves memories with her sons, Gary, and Robert Rankins (wife Sherri) grandchildren, Justin Rankins (wife Diane) Amanda Kirkham (husband Jon), Kristen Rojowski (husband Nick), Tyler Rankins and great grandchildren; Baylee Kirkham, Madeline Rojowski, Brody Rankins, Kennedy Kirkham, Makenna Rankins, Carter Rankins, Amelia Rojowski and Claire Rojowski.

She is preceded in death by her parents, mentioned above and husband Robert K. Rankins.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM- 8:00 PM, Friday, July 23, 2021, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 West Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140.
