County’s COVID-19 death toll rises to 150

HANCOCK COUNTY — The county crossed another grim milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic Tuesday after reporting a new death, raising its total to 150.

The latest person to die was a woman age 80 or older who died on July 23, according to information from the Indiana State Department of Health.

Hancock County’s first known COVID-19 death was on March 21, 2020, and the county passed 100 fatalities in January 2021.

The number of cases the county adds per day continues to remain low, but its seven-day moving average rose slightly to nine on Tuesday, its highest since early June.

Indiana added 15 COVID-19 deaths Tuesday, raising its total to 13,552. The state’s daily case counts continue to trend upward, with a seven-day moving average of 764.
