HANCOCK COUNTY — A man who died after an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound outside a home near McCordsville was identified on Friday, July 2, as Thomas Williams, 25, of Avon.

According to a witness who called the police after hearing a gunshot, Williams had come to the witness’s house in the Stansbury neighborhood to buy a dog. Williams was found alone in his car with a handgun in his pants and appeared to have shot himself in the chest.

As of Friday, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department was continuing to investigate the death. Capt. Robert Harris said the department had no reason to believe anyone else was involved in the shooting.
