GREENFIELD — A two-story office building on North State Street began rolling toward its new home on Thursday night, June 24, easing its way on a set of integrated remote-controlled dollies down deserted streets to its destination a short distance away.

The brick-wrapped former F.C. Tucker building, weighing approximately 400 tons, began its journey after city workers removed traffic lights at State Street and McClarnon Drive to give the structure clearance. State Street and McClarnon Drive were closed for the move, which was expected to take several hours.

The building, originally at 1700 N. State Street, was to be moved south on State Street about 700 feet to McClarnon Drive, where it was to turn west and on to the destination off Fields Boulevard, where it will be set on its new foundation.

Daily Reporter staffers were following the building’s progress, and a complete report will be in the Weekend print edition of the Daily Reporter.
