County OKs tax break for expansion

HANCOCK COUNTY — The Hancock County Council approved a tax abatement for an architectural sheet metal shop’s planned expansion.

Applied Fabricators intends to add 18,000 square feet onto its 10,000-square foot facility at 7185 W. County Road 200N, where it specializes in fabricating metal for exteriors of buildings.

The expansion, which is estimated to cost about $1 million, is needed to make room for more equipment, personnel and product. County council members unanimously approved a property tax abatement on the addition earlier this month upon introduction and will hold a vote to confirm it at a future meeting.

Applied Fabricators’ expansion is estimated to create five full-time jobs in the next three to four years with salaries exceeding $256,000. The company currently employs 14 full-time and two part-time with salaries exceeding $850,000.
