GREENFIELD — The city police department’s acting chief has been promoted to the job full time.

Brian Hartman, who has served in an interim capacity as head of the Greenfield Police Department since the retirement of former Chief Jeff Rasche, was appointed Tuesday, June 15 by Mayor Chuck Fewell, the mayor announced.

Hartman, who held the rank of captain, made it known he wanted the job after Rasche announced he was stepping down. Rasche left GPD on May 28.

“I am very excited at this possible opportunity and believe the mayor will appoint the candidate he feels is best qualified and capable of moving the Greenfield Police Department forward,” Hartman told the Daily Reporter last month.

Hartman, who has been with GPD for about 13 years, was promoted to deputy chief in early 2020. He formerly was patrol commander.
