GREENFIELD — Officials with the Hancock County 911 Center are offering drivers a way to stay on top of traffic problems.

People can opt in to a free text message service in which officials send updates and alerts about traffic on Interstate 70 in Hancock County.

Greg Duda, Hancock County 911 public information officer, noted morning and afternoon commutes have been difficult lately.

“We wanted to offer a way to let drivers plan a new route in the event there has been accident, or back-ups are worse than normal,” Duda said.

Travelers can text the word i70HANCOCK to 226787 to get enrolled.

“The more people that we can notify about an incident greatly helps to reduce the congestion and backup for everyone’s drive,” Duda said.

Officials are also encouraging commuters to follow the 911 Center on Facebook as a way to keep up to date on issues affecting commutes. Due to construction on State Road 9, U.S. 40 and I-70, keeping up to date on the latest information will help commuters find safe and less-congested routes.
