GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Democratic Party is planning several events this summer as part of a bid to increase the visibility of the party.

“We’ve got a much fuller calendar than we’ve had in the past,” county party chair Linda Genrich said.

The party will have a “Picnic in the Park” event on July 18, which will also be a stop on the state Democratic party’s American Rescue Plan tour. The event will be the first major gathering for county Democrats since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and will take place at Riley Park from 2-6 p.m.

Genrich said there will be a number of guest speakers at the event, including Dana Black, the party’s vice chairwoman for engagement and host of Turn Left, a YouTube-based talk show about Indiana politics.

The American Rescue Plan tour aims to educate Indiana voters about how the federal COVID-19 relief legislation is benefiting their communities.

Local Democrats are also preparing to have booths at this year’s 4-H Fair and Fortville’s Independence Day Celebration on July 4, where they will provide information about the American Rescue Plan and about state and county party activities

Later in the summer, the party will return to having its annual banquet after taking a year off due to COVID-19. The event will take place Aug. 7 at Bradley Hall in Greenfield and will feature keynote speaker Robin Winston, a former chairman and political director of the state party. Tickets can be purchased online at actblue.com.

The party will hold its next meeting via Zoom at 7 p.m. Monday, June 14. For a link to the Zoom meeting, those interested can contact Genrich at 317-586-815. Beginning in July, it will return to hosting in-person meetings.
