Local students to receive scholarships

INDIANAPOLIS — Six Hancock County high school seniors recently earned Next Generation Hoosier Educators teaching scholarships from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Among those recognized were Alayna Aldridge, New Palestine High School; Thomas Day and Abigail Elsbury, Greenfield-Central High School; and Shiloh McFarland, Alexis Shelton and Emily Stepan, Mt. Vernon High School. Students were selected through a competitive process based on academic achievement and other factors. Each will receive $7,500 annually (up to $30,000 total) for committing to teach in Indiana for at least five years after graduating college. Students must earn a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and complete at least 30 credit hours per year. Mississippi honors

OXFORD, MI — Bailey Watkins, New Palestine, was recently named to the University of Mississippi’s Spring 2021 Dean’s Honor Roll List. This list is reserved for students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.50 — 3.74. Claire Haxton and Kilarendha Sundling, both of Fortville, earned Chancellor’s Honor Roll designation. SNHU announces winter honors

MANCHESTER, NH — Jacob Rush, Fortville, and Paul Hood, Greenfield, were recently named to the Southern New Hampshire University Winter 2021 Dean’s List. The winter term runs from January to May. Full-time students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 to 3.699 are named to the Dean’s List. Named to the President’s List were Steven Coffin, Rachael Griffith and Dominique Watson, Greenfield; Samantha Barker, New Palestine; Cinnamon George, McCordsville; and Jonathon Hall, Fortville.
