BELMONT — A Greenfield woman died in a crash in Brown County on State Road 46 on Thursday night, June 3.

Alison Jerrell was pronounced dead at the scene at the intersection of T.C. Steele Road and State Road 46 by Brown County Coroner Earl Piper, according to a news release from the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

The two-vehicle crash was reported just after 10 p.m. Police reported that a 2018 Ford Fusion driven by Andrew Sanders of Indianapolis was driving north on T.C. Steele Road when the vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at State Road 46.

Sanders’ vehicle continued into the path of a 2019 Ram 5500 that Billy Dobbs of Elizabethtown was driving east on State Road 46. Dobbs was unable to avoid a collision and struck the driver’s side of Sanders’ vehicle, the press release said.

Jerrell was the front-seat passenger in Sanders’ vehicle.

Sanders was flown to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital for treatment. A search warrant was granted for Sanders’ blood to check toxicology levels, as is standard procedure for drivers in fatal crashes. The results of that test are pending, the news release said.

Dobbs was taken to Columbus Regional Health Hospital by ambulance. Dobbs submitted to a chemical test at the hospital, and results are pending.

The accident, which occurred on the state road about halfway between Nashville and Bloomington, remains under investigation.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Indiana State Police, the Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department and ambulance services from IU Health and Columbus Regional Health.
