HANCOCK COUNTY — The county reported its second COVID-19 death in as many days on Thursday. The victim, like the one reported a day earlier, was younger than most who have died so far.

The victim was a woman in her 40s who died on May 28.

It followed information released on Wednesday about a Hancock County man in his 30s who died of the novel coronavirus on May 29.

The county’s latest fatality was its third in the 40-49 age group. More than half of the county’s COVID-19 deaths have been 80 and older, and more than 40% were between the ages of 60 and 79.

Hancock County also added 11 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, raising its total to 8,508.

Indiana added 20 deaths, for a total of 13,239; and 418 cases, for a total of 745,690.

As of early Thursday, 37,872 Hancock County residents age 12 and older were fully vaccinated from COVID-19 and 38,959 were at least partially vaccinated — 58.6% of its 12+ population.

Statewide, more than 2.5 million age 12 and up have been fully vaccinated and more than 2.6 million are at least partially vaccinated, nearly 46% of the 12+ population.
