Business briefs: NineStar elects board leadership

GREENFIELD — At their May meeting, the board of directors of NineStar Connect conducted its annual board reorganization. The following directors were elected for the 2021 year: Ray Kerkhof (chairman), Steve Vail (vice chairman) and Mark Evans (secretary/treasurer).

In addition, Darrell Thomas and Jim Cherry were selected as members of the executive committee. Phil Hayes assumes the role as chairman emeritus.

New requirements for hiring minors

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Labor’s Bureau of Youth Employment announced that Hoosier employers must adhere to new requirements regarding minor employees younger than 18 years old beginning July 1, 2021.

The new requirements will eliminate the need for work permits and replace them with a new employer registration platform known as the Youth Employment System, or YES.

Effective July, employers who employ five or more employees at each individual location who are under 18 years old will be required to register via the new YES online platform.

Career connections, talent secretary steps down

INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Secretary of Career Connections and Talent Blair Milo is stepping down to launch a new entity designed to assist women and minorities engaged in entrepreneurship.

Milo was named the first Secretary of Career Connections and Talent in 2017. She has led the 21st Century Talent Regions initiative, resulting in 80 Indiana counties forming 14 regions to plan and implement strategies for attracting, developing and connecting talent. She has also been instrumental in creating the Indiana Talent Network, which connects stakeholders statewide in sharing best practices for equitable talent policies and strategies.
