GREENFIELD — You might call it a plant grant. The Hancock County Community Foundation recently made a grant to the Greenfield-Central School Foundation from the foundation’s Agricultural Heritage Fund.

The grant will pay a portion of the cost of supplies needed to produce approximately 15,000 plants in the high school greenhouse. This project will permit students to take plants from seeding to retail and be engaged in different aspects of the supply chain, including planning, production, plant health and merchandising. Some plants will be sold to the public and some will be used to plant the school garden.

The grant was issued from a pool of funds that is set aside each year to meet nonprofit organizations’ needs that arise outside of the major grant cycles. These mini grants can be made for up to $1,000, until the pool of money is exhausted.
