HANCOCK COUNTY — The Indiana Department of Transportation will work on a deep patching project for approximately five miles on Interstate 70 eastbound and westbound between County Road 400E and State Road 109.

Crews are building a crossover throughout the end of April and beginning of May. In the meantime, traffic is being shifted onto the shoulders, with two lanes open in each direction.

The crossover will begin after Memorial Day for Phase 1. I-70 eastbound lanes will be closed, and all traffic will be shifted into the westbound lanes, with one lane in each direction.

During Phase 1, the State Road 109 eastbound ramps will be closed. The State Road 109 ramp to I-70 westbound will also be closed. Traffic will still be able to exit at State Road 109.

This phase is scheduled to open up in mid-July to prepare for Phase 2.

Phase 2 is scheduled to begin at the end of July. During Phase 2, traffic will be shifted into a crossover on the I-70 eastbound lanes, with one lane in each direction. I-70 westbound lanes will be completely closed.

Also during this phase, the State Road 109 westbound ramps will be closed. The State Road 109 ramp to I-70 eastbound will also be closed. Traffic will still be able to exit at State Road 109.

This phase is scheduled to open up before Labor Day.

During construction, the public can also take a signed alternate route. That will be Mt. Comfort Road to U.S. 40 to State Road 3.

All construction work is weather dependent. For the latest information, follow @INDOTEast on Twitter and INDOT East Central on Facebook.
