Robert W. “Bob” Bernhard, age 84, of Greenfield, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Morristown Manor. He was born in Batesville, Indiana to Walter W. Bernhard and Bernice (Mullins) Bernhard. He graduated from Sunman High School in 1955, and attended Indiana Central for one year. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Conflict. He married Rebecca “Becky” (Marshall) Bernhard on October 10, 1964 in Greenfield, Indiana.

He worked for Eli Lilly as a supervisor of maintenance of toxicology for 37 years, before retiring in 1993. Bob was a volunteer at Nameless Creek Youth camp, a founding member of the Young Republicans in Hancock County, and a former member of American Association of Laboratory Animal Science. He was also a member of the Greenfield Fraternal Order of Police #140, the American Legion #120, and the VFW #2693. Robert enjoyed fishing at Broughton’s Lake, traveling to Michigan for mushroom hunting, cutting trees, and spending time with his friends at the Greenfield FOP.

He is survived by his children, Mark (Mihoko) Bernhard of Greenfield, and Susan B. Ellenburg of Greenfield; grandchildren, Wesley William and Abigail Grace Ellenburg; great-grandson, Nolan Alexander Musch; brothers, Doug Bernhard of Williams, AZ, and Steve Bernhard of Santa Fe, New Mexico; sisters Ruth Bernhard of Harrison, OH; Jenny Awad of Aurora, IN, and Barb Ertel of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bernice Bernhard; wife, Becky Bernhard; son, Scott William Bernhard; brother, Norm Bernhard; and sisters, Delores and Linda Bernhard.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Saturday April 24, at 6:00pm at the Greenfield Fraternal Order of Police, dinner will be served. A private burial will take place at Park Cemetery in Greenfield, IN at a later date and time with Military Honors presented by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard. As a reminder, the government mandate requires guests to wear masks when inside our building. We must limit the number of guests at a time and please practice social distancing.
