State DNR to host Free Fishing Days

INDIANA — The first Free Fishing Day of the year is May 2. Residents of the Hoosier state do not need a fishing license or a trout and salmon stamp to fish the state’s public waters on Free Fishing Days. Parks across the state will play host to fishing events on these dates. Visit in.gov/dnr/fish-and-wildlife/fishing/free-fishing-days for more information, fishing videos and information on the Learn to Fish program. Future Free Fishing Days are June 5 — 6 and Sept. 25.

Learn to camp at Conner Prairie

FISHERS — Love the idea of being a family that camps, but don’t know how to get started? Join the staff of Conner Prairie to learn basic camping skills, enjoy outdoor experiences and spend the night on the grounds in a tent. The program is offered two weekends: May 1 at 1 p.m. to May 2 at 10 a.m. or May 8 at 1 p.m. to May 9 at 10 a.m. Registrations is $140 per family of six. The program includes all camping gear (air mattresses are provided, but families should bring their own bedding), modern restrooms and overnight security. Activities include setting up a campsite, archery, a guided hike through the North Woods and fishing on the Conner Family pond. Featured workshops include how-tos on planning a family campout, using a propane camping stove, washing camp dishes, building a campfire and preparing meals. Register now for the Mutts on Main parade

GREENFIELD — Register now for the first Mutts on Main Costume Dog Parade fundraiser that will take place at 1 p.m. May 15 in downtown Greenfield. Registration to participate is $15 at the Greenfield Main Street: Mutts on Main Facebook page. The proceeds from the event will benefit Greenfield Main Street and the Hancock County Humane Society.
