GREENFIELD — The Indiana Department of Transportation is closing lanes of U.S. 40 near Greenfield as part of a resurfacing project.

Construction started at the beginning of April. All work is weather-dependent, but the road is scheduled to be fully open again by the end of June.

Lanes will be resurfaced on U.S. 40 in both directions, between County Road 400E and Monroe Street. Flaggers are on hand to direct vehicles through the construction, with traffic moving in both directions sharing one lane. Drivers should watch for crews on the side of the road and be prepared to stop.

The work will continue to take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. to cause minimal impact on traffic.

Capt. Chuck McMichael of the Greenfield Police Department said crews began by patching bad spots in the road and will begin milling on or after April 12.

Meanwhile, work on State Road 9 is continuing. On the north side of the project, crews are continuing work on curbs and patching, and lane restrictions are in place north of McKenzie Road. Within the next few weeks, McMichael said, crews will begin working on the center median.

McMichael said closures on the south side of the project, from Main Street to Davis Road, are expected to continue for approximately six more weeks.
