11:15 a.m. update: U.S. 52 has reopened.

HANCOCK COUNTY — Officials with the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department said a ruptured gas line this morning (Thursday, March 4) near Carroll Road and U.S. 52 has caused the highway to be shut down and the nearby Brookville Road Community Church to be evacuated.

No injuries were reported. The evacuation of the church, 7480 W. U.S. 52, was necessary because of the possibility of gas leaking into the building, said Brandon Kleine, chief of the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department.

Officials said utilities workers in the area appear to have hit the gas line.

“All is good currently,” Kleine said as crews worked to repair the line.

The area is between County Roads 700W and 800W (Carroll Road). U.S. 52 was expected to be closed for a few hours.
