HANCOCK COUNTY — A county man is one of two central Indiana residents facing federal charges after they were identified as being inside the U.S. Capitol during the deadly protest on Jan. 6.

In a criminal complaint filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, federal authorities said Israel Tutrow and Joshua Wagner were inside the Capitol on the day Congress was meeting to certify results from the presidential election. Hundreds of supporters of Donald Trump stormed the building to disrupt the final, largely ceremonial act by the House and Senate to count electoral votes and declare Joe Biden the winner of the election. Five people died, including an officer for the Capitol Police.

Tutrow has a Greenfield address. Wagner’s last known address is in Greenwood.

The two men — like dozens of others from around the country so far who have been identified as having been inside the Capitol that day — are facing several federal charges:

–Knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds

–Disorderly conduct which impedes the conduct of government business

–Disruptive conduct in the Capitol Buildings

–Parading, demonstrating or picketing in the Capitol Buildings.

The men apparently were identified from photos that circulated on social media.

According to a complaint filed in support of the charges, Wagner and Tutrow traveled together to Washington, D.C., to participate in the rally for Trump on the morning Congress was meeting. A witness said it was unclear whether either man had any affiliation with hate groups, but that Wagner “vehemently opposes” Joe Biden as president.

The witness did not think the two men went to Washington with the intention of committing violence, the complaint said.

Wagner surrendered  to authorities early Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 26. A warrant has been issued for Tutrow’s arrest. Local law enforcement officials say they have not been contacted by the federal agents for help in locating Tutrow.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
