INDIANAPOLIS — A bill authored by Sen. Mike Crider, R-Greenfield, aimed at offering help to students dealing with suicide or human trafficking was approved by a Senate committee on Monday, Jan. 11, which was National Human Trafficking Awareness Day.

The bill, co-authored by Crider and Sen. Jon Ford, requires public schools that issue student identification cards to students in grades 6-12 to include a local, state or national suicide prevention hotline telephone number; and human trafficking hotline telephone number. The resources must be available to provide 24/7 support.

The bill will now go on to be heard by the full Senate. If it passes in the legislature and is signed into law, it is set to go into effect in July.
